Gameplay Experience
I finally decided to play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare after putting it off for years. When it launched back in 2007, it received massive praise and won numerous awards, but at the time I wasn’t interested in military shooters and mostly played Japanese games. Because of that, I never gave it a chance.
Now, after spending several missions with the game, I’m having a decent time, but it hasn’t completely lived up to the legendary reputation I always heard about. The campaign is enjoyable, and I like how it switches between different protagonists and mission types to keep things fresh. The pacing is solid, and the presentation still feels polished, but so far nothing has truly blown me away.
Part of me wonders if the game’s influence is the reason. Modern Warfare inspired countless shooters over the years, so many of its ideas may feel familiar today even though they were groundbreaking when first introduced. Because of that, some moments that once felt revolutionary now seem standard.
Even so, the campaign remains engaging, and I can understand why it became so influential. The varied missions, memorable set pieces, and cinematic storytelling help it stand out from many other shooters of its era. Overall, it’s an enjoyable experience, even if playing it years later doesn’t have quite the same impact it had when it originally released.
